In the summer of 2003 a young couple were married. The pair began their life together with a very special gift. A small seed was planted in the hearts and minds of the newly weds when they opened a beautiful gift of Ghanaian cloth decorated with Adinkra symbols from the west African nation. Included in the package were two sheets of additional symbols, with explanations as to their meanings. The items were enjoyed, admired, and then, forgotten...

Until one day, after moving into a new home, the items were re-discovered, and the pair began to wonder how they could use them to bring value to themselves and to the world. After several months of mulling ideas over in their minds, and with encouragement from a few good friends, Adoma's AfriCrafts was conceived and created. The husband had access to a computerized routing machine, and one day while working with the machine it occurred to him that the symbols on the cloth could be carved into wood using the router. He excitedly explained the idea to his wife, and together they began to work on ways to bring the concept to life. After much work and many months the first prototypes were produced, yielding fantastic results.
Thus were born the creations you are able to enjoy here, at Adoma's AfriCrafts! But this site is not only about the Adinkra and how they came into our lives, but also how they can come into yours as well. We encourage you to look over our designs, download our free wallpapers, and tell your friends about these wonderful carvings. We know they will bring a little spark of the soul of Africa to your home, as they have done to ours!
Thank You!
